WASHINGTON — The HR Certification Institute (HRCI) has appointed Amy Schabacker Dufrane, Ed.D., SPHR, CAE, as its executive director.
A senior executive with more than 20 years of experience, Dufrane has served as interim executive director at HRCI since December 2012. Her appointment was effective Friday, Aug. 2.
“HRCI is pleased to have Amy Dufrane — a certified HR professional and experienced administrator — lead the Institute as it serves the HR profession around the world as its certifying organization,” said Clarissa A. Peterson, SPHR, GPHR, chair of HRCI’s board of directors.
“I have worked with Amy over the last eight months during her term as interim executive director and have been impressed with her leadership, professionalism and dedication to the value of certification,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “Having Amy at the helm is good for both the Institute and HR professionals.”
“Certification continues to grow, the number of applicants continues to increase, and the value of certification to individual HR professionals is more recognizable than ever,” Dufrane said. “I’m thrilled to continue being part of the Institute at such an exciting time and look forward to helping HR professionals grow in their careers.”
Dufrane joined HRCI as chief operating officer in 2011. Her earlier experiences include serving as chief administrative and HR officer of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board and senior director of HR and administration for the Optical Society and roles in the HR department at Marymount University and Bloomingdales.
Dufrane has been a member of the adjunct faculty in the School of Business at Marymount University since 1998.
She holds a doctorate in education from The George Washington University, a master’s of business administration and a master’s of arts in human resources from Marymount University and a bachelor’s degree in management from Hood College. She obtained the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute in 2005 and became a Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 2013.
