The HR Gazette has exclusively caught up with Rayanne Langdon, Marketing & Community Manager at Tilt, one of the sponsors at SocialHRCamp Toronto 2014, to get her thoughts on HR tech developments and the upcoming event.
Editor: Tell us a bit about your personal career history and what brought you to your current company?
RL: I’m the Marketing & Community Manager at Tilt, the easiest way to collect money from your group, fundraise with your crowd, or sell to your community. Before joining the team at Tilt, I was a consultant at High Road, a mid-sized communications firm, but I got my feet wet (and gained my love of the startup life) at FreshBooks, the #1 cloud accounting solution designed for small business owners. I love my job because I get to help and directly impact our users and community. We’re a small team in Canada, so we get to take risks and get a lot of stuff done fast.
Editor: Can you tell us a bit about what your company does for HR professionals?
RL: Tilt is a crowdfunding platform for anybody, including HR professionals. I used to work in a company of about 70 people, and HR was often responsible for organizing wedding or baby gifts. They’d pass an envelope around the office and collect cash from anyone who happened to have some on hand. With Tilt, you simply share a link and collect money online fast. You can keep track of who paid, but keep their donation amounts private, which is a much better experience for everyone involved! Of course, this is only one example of how folks in HR can benefit from group funding : )
Editor: What is your target market? Please tell us a bit about typical companies which use your services?
RL: Anyone can use Tilt! Non-profit organizations use our platform to fundraise, businesses use it to sell tickets to an event or even product pre-orders, and individuals use it to group fund everything from concert tickets to gifts and trips.
Editor: How does your product/service help HR professionals?
RL: Tilt can help HR professionals keep on top of projects that require multiple people in the office chip in. It’s a great communication tool for these projects, as well. The entire organization can see how their contribution gets everyone closer to the overall goal, and receive updates on the campaign in one central hub.
Editor: How does SocialHRCamp fit with your brand objectives?
RL: Many of our tilters (what we call our users) are super social people, and they see success with their campaigns because they’re the organizers of their group. We see a lot of similarities with SocialHRCamp and the kind of people who attend.
Tilt launched in Canada this spring and we’re busy spreading the good word across the country. My job is to grow and love the heck out of our community and I think being part of SocialHRCamp will allow me to do even more of that with a really cool group of people.
Editor: Why did your company choose to get involved with SocialHRCamp and what results are you hoping from the sponsorship?
RL: I’ve known Jeff (the creator of SocialHRCamp) for years. I know he’s a pretty social guy with a great network, and I’ve seen how SHRC has grown year over year. Being part of SocialHRCamp gives us a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to a group of organizers, exactly the type of people who use Tilt! We also think it’s important to be part of the local community, not just online. Can’t wait to meet everyone face-to-face!
Editor: There are more hands-on sessions to help HR professionals strategically use social media and emerging HR/Recruitment technology at this year’s ‘unconference’ than ever before. The Camp’s session facilitators are experts in the fields of HR, Recruitment, Marketing, Social Media, Learning, Leadership and more, and will also be active participants throughout the day. Will your company be presenting a session?
Yes!
Editor: Who will be speaking and what will be the topic(s) and learning outcomes?
RL: I’ll be presenting a session on the impact of crowdfunding and crowdsourcing within the HR community. Both are great ways to connect, communicate with, and improve processes for your organization. I’m not the expert on HR, so I’m lucky to have Jeff’s help with my session so it’s super fitting for the day. I want to make sure it’s really valuable to attendees.
Editor: In your opinion, what will be the big HR and social media technological shifts and patterns of adoption in the workplace in the next 5 years?
RL: I’m going to take a page from our CEO James Beshara’s book with this one. Over the next four to five years, companies are going to want more than just to converse with customers, they will want to collaborate with them. I think the same can be said for the way companies communicate with their employees and the way employees work with each other.
We’re already seeing this at Tilt. It isn’t so much about getting funds from disparate, disconnected groups of people. We help collective action for whatever the community wants to bring to life.
Editor: With low adoption of social media and HR technology within the HR Community it’s important that we introduce new technologies and push attendees beyond their comfort zones. How are you planning on doing this at SocialHRCamp Toronto 2014?
RL: The content for my session exists from first-hand experience, gained from working at Tilt. I’m not about the hard sell and never will be, but examples will help bring my talk to life and hopefully help attendees realize the everyday possibilities that already exist with their groups at work and elsewhere!
Editor: How can people learn more about your services?
It’s as easy as visiting Tilt.com! And I’m always available for campaign help or ideas at rayanne@tilt.com or 866.829.2636.
