Encouraging HR Professionals to Lead with Conviction

It’s amazing to think that we’ve been producing the HRchat podcast for 4 years! Since we launched the show, I’ve had the honor to interview many, many incredibly intelligent, insightful and passionate leaders in HR, talent, tech, and operations.

In the 200th episode of the HRchat show, I welcome back one of my favorite guests and a professional for whom I have lots of respect. Steve Browne, one of the nicest guys in HR, returns to the podcast to share some timely lessons for HR pros looking for ways to navigate the waters of a new normal.

Listen to HRchat episode 200 and discover:

  • What does it mean to to practice “HR on Purpose”?
  • What should HR leaders do to find and create more purpose in their role?
  • How is Steve trying to get companies to understand that when we operate from a people-first lens we get better results?
  • What are the most important skills for HR professionals to possess in 2020 to transition from ownership to leadership?
  • Steve suggests that you don’t need a title to be a leader. Why is it that when HR pros have a chance to lead – as has been shown during COVID19 – they tend to wait to be asked?

In it, Steve called on HR professionals to take ownership of who they were and what they did in their roles in organizations.

In his new book, HR Rising, Steve urges professionals to take the next step from ownership to leadership. The book gives a formula for HR which is: People + Processes = Results. Steve suggests that companies tend to work backwards and go Results = Processes and the cycle continues over and over. Too often, says Steve, they forget the people.
