Biometric Screenings and New Year’s Resolutions

The holidays are here!  It is the time of year we look back on the year that was, and look forward to a new beginning.  With the New Year, comes New Year’s resolutions.  We set expectations for ourselves each year to achieve specific goals.  According to Time Magazine, 3 of the top 10 New Year’s resolutions have to do with health; losing weight, quitting smoking and getting fit. Wouldn’t it be nice if employers assisted employees in attaining their goals through a comprehensive wellness program?  Why not capitalize on the motivation provided by the New Year to jumpstart a wellness initiative for individual employees and for the population as a whole?

Biometric screenings are the foundation of employee wellness.  Through biometrics, individuals are able to set personal goals while providing direction for population health initiatives. Aggregate reporting serves to identify risk within a population and facilitates the process of establishing companywide objectives. Depending on areas of risk, intervention programs can be implemented for targeting weight loss, exercise, smoking or other programs.

Executive level support and the formation of wellness committees convey the message that better health and wellbeing is important to the company as a whole. Defining health related resolutions for the company will help employees do the same for themselves. A well designed biometric initiative will build on this foundation and focus on engagement. Incentives help to maintain persistency and goal attainment. Upon completion of  year 1  another screening event  (year 2) is critical to measure the value on investment (VOI) the wellness program has brought to your organization.

The time is right to make a new beginning focusing on individual interest in health and well-being and company-wide needs for targeted interventions. Biometric screenings provide the foundation for risk assessment, targeting interventions and determining outcomes.  Make a resolution for change in 2016. Schedule your biometric program now!
